Role of the exile
Here's a quote I came across while reviewing Ireland and Proulx' collection of essays, Textualizing the Immigrant Experience in Contemporary Quebec (Praeger, 2004). Ireland uses it in her discussion of return writing.
“The task of the exile, especially the exiled artist, is to transform the figure of rupture back into a figure of connection.” (Michael Seidel qtd in Ireland 41)
Seidel, Michael. Exile and the Narrative Imagination. New Haven: Yale UP, 1986. x.
Pour les francophones, je traduis la citation de Seidel:
"La tâche de l'exilé, surtout de l'artiste exilé, c'est de transformer la figure de la rupture dans une figure de la connexion".
